Clothing chaos to sustainable personal style

I have nothing to wear again – from clothing chaos to sustainable personal style

It’s a summer morning in July and it’s time to put something back on. I can’t find anything in the wardrobe that is short-sleeved or comfortable to wear in this high summer heat we’ve had. So I put on the same dress I’d been wearing for the past few days.

It works, but it’s not living up to my motto – to use all the clothes I have in my wardrobe.

What can I do about this because I have clothes and don’t want to buy a lot? So how do I go from aimless to a more sustainable personal style?

What I have struggled with over the summer and solutions

During part of the holiday, I struggled with, among other things, thoughts about my summer wardrobe. Also had many thoughts about what I want to do in the future with my newly started company The WER.

How will I be able to cope with doing everything I want to do during the autumn when there are only 24 hours in the day? Let’s start from the beginning.

How is it that as a second-hand stylist I feel that I have nothing to wear during the summer?

During the summer I struggled with finding stylish, simple, and cool summer clothes.

Over time, I have concluded that I have focused too much on creating a fall wardrobe. This means that I now don’t have as much opportunity to transform into a summer wardrobe.

Therefore, I decided not to buy new ones, but to pick up the clothes from the chair and hang them up instead. You know that chair that everything ends up on and disappears in. And use the few summer clothes I have for so long

What I have done to be able to use my garment more

Despite the price of electricity, I make sure to do the laundry so they are ready when I need them. As well as writing down garments that I want to invest in that can be worn for both summer and autumn. Because I can still feel that I need cool tops with colors that I can wear both in summer and autumn. Which I will buy second hand.

Another reason why the summer wardrobe has been a bit difficult is that I have gained weight and thus changed my clothing size. It’s not much but I’ve put on a couple of kilos (read 5kg). It means that my slim-fit clothes no longer fit and mainly don’t feel comfortable.

Should we then keep them? Save them to lose weight and hope they will fit again. Or give them away and buy new second-hand? Please tell me how you do it. And what do you think? Would love to hear.

I decided to purge.

What I’ve done to go from clothing chaos to sustainable personal style this summer

I have cleared out 100 clothes that I will sell and give away during the fall. I came to a stage in my style journey where I could no longer fit in my wardrobe. When it was time to update the closet for the new season, I got a bad feeling. I picked up moving box after moving box with clothes and thought, well, now that’s enough.

This does not feel sustainable. It’s time to clean up. Believe me, after cleaning I still have lots of clothes left. But thank God, more clothes I fit in and use.

Only use 145 items in your lifetime

I read somewhere that we only need 145 garments in a lifetime from the age of 20-> onwards. And I have during the summer cleared out over 100 garments. Currently, I have much more than 145 garments.

I could probably cope better if the clothes we have today were of better quality. It is not a sustainable fashion at the moment. Just like some wrote in the comments section of the post I read.

Think about it, I am more so that I don’t want more clothes, but I do. Love clothes. But I feel that both my shopping and the clothes I buy need to be more sustainable. Even though I already buy like 100% second-hand, used clothes, which are like new, it’s quite large amounts.

It is one of the reasons why I would like to have a buying freeze this fall and am struggling with myself to follow it. And save more money, time, and the environment.

Before the summer, the company felt a little heavy. Very stressful and unsatisfying. Therefore, my focus for the fall is to create a workflow where I can work with The WER without being overstressed. With an overall focus on less shopping and more time to create and inspire a sustainable personal style, it feels possible.

What I still struggle with in my Business.

What I learned the hard way is that social media and clothes often work best. However, it also needs to be fun and not a compulsion for you to endure in the long run. I have lots of personal styles, outfits, and wardrobe cleaning materials filmed and photographed.

Now it’s time to get it out of my head and my folders and share it with you. Therefore, I will ask you and myself every month; What are your plans for this month, quarter, or period?

First up are my goals for September.

  • Launch and sell my first product – a sustainable personal style course to be launched this autumn.
  • Run a Wardrobe update for fall clothes
  • Create a workflow for my Sales Chain
  • Share regularly on social media

My goals throughout the fall

  • Try to consume less. If it is to be consumed, do it second hand and of course and follow the motto one in one out.
  • Share with me more of my experience while it’s happening and afterward.
  • More color this fall. I’m going to add a splash of color to my outfits. So that summer clothes can be used a little more all year round.

In summary, getting from clothing chaos to sustainable personal style the journey continues.

I struggle with similar things in my private life as in my business – to use everything I have. I hope to create a process that feels fun, developing, and creative.

A process that helps me create a year-round wardrobe. As well as a similar process that makes it easier to share my learnings around my sustainable personal style journey.

Because then there is the chance to kill two birds with one stone. At the same time, I help strengthen your own sustainable personal style journey. Because you deserve to feel like you can do it too.

In order not to miss anything, be sure to follow, like, and not least comment. Because the exchange is part of the journey, here we help each other.
